the making of "The dreamer"
The story behind the making of this Fine art print
"The king rests in stoic silence, as the weight of the wild dances in the shadows of the storm."
Under the darkening sky, the lion rests calmly on the rock, his presence both quiet and commanding. His weathered mane and steady gaze reflect a life in tune with the wild. In this moment of stillness, he feels less like a ruler and more like a part of the land itself. The air carries a sense of calm strength, as if the world is holding its breath.
Male lions are almost always portrayed as the powerful and fearsome beings they are, but they also have a more gentle side that we rarely see. While observing this large male perched atop a kopje on the Namiri Plains, I wanted to showcase that quieter, softer side. The monochrome tones of the scene allowed me to focus on the nuances of his demeanor – the calm in his gaze, the relaxed yet poised way he held himself against the rugged rock. There was no roar, no display of dominance; instead, there was a sense of peace, as though he was taking a moment to simply exist in harmony with his surroundings. Through this image, I hoped to capture not just his strength, but the quiet beauty and grace that often go unnoticed in the king of the Serengeti.
As I stood on the Namiri Plains, the large male lion sat atop the kopje, his presence commanding yet unexpectedly serene. In the stillness of the moment, I wanted to capture more than just his fearsome stature – I sought to reveal the softer side of this majestic creature. The monochrome landscape allowed me to focus on the subtleties of his expression, his posture, and the quiet strength he exuded. His eyes, though alert, carried a sense of calm rather than aggression, and there was an almost contemplative air to his stance. I was drawn to how he seemed at peace in his environment, unbothered by the vast, wild world around him. It was a rare moment, a reminder that even the most formidable predators have their quieter, more introspective moments – their beauty not defined by their power, but by their grace and presence in the landscape.
