#009 - The Seventh Seal
Sea of Okhotsk, Japan - 2023
In this image, a white-tailed sea eagle flies through a snow-filled sky over the Sea of Okhotsk in Japan. Its powerful wings push through the cold air as snow falls thick around it. On its back, a dark shape seems to appear, like a shadow caught mid-flight. The scene captures the essence of fine art wildlife photography, where nature and imagination meet in a single frame.
To me, the illusion brings to mind Death from Ingmar Bergman’s The Seventh Seal, that quiet, persistent figure moving through a harsh world. The scene feels as if it could belong to that same universe, stark, cold, and full of questions.
The falling snow softens the light and hides detail, giving the photograph an uncertain mood. It feels both real and imagined, caught between motion and stillness. This piece has become one of my most provocative sea eagle wildlife prints, a work that invites reflection and wonder.
This image is not only about the strength of the eagle but also about the space it creates in the mind. It leaves room for interpretation, where a fleeting shadow can become a symbol and a moment in nature can echo the weight of a story. It now forms part of my limited edition wildlife print collection from Japan and continues to resonate with collectors seeking wildlife wall art that blends atmosphere and emotion.
