Johan Siggesson on National Geographic...
Think I was excited seeing my Zebra shot becoming “Photo of the Day” on National Geographic? Answer is Yes!
This black and white zebra image was taken on my first safari ever, a lifelong dream that I finally fulfilled back in 2012. I was in the Masai Mara, out with the idea of creating something more abstract using longer shutter speeds. I was focused on the movement of the herd, looking for rhythm and flow and something that would work for more experimental zebra photography.
Suddenly, this one zebra turned slightly and gave me a clear view of its eye. It was just a brief moment. I quickly changed my settings and took the shot. What I love about this image, now a black and white wildlife photo of the day on National Geographic, is how it came from letting go of the original plan. Sometimes the best results come from simply being present. This frame still reminds me of how raw and alive that first Masai Mara safari felt.

Strange thing is that I wasn’t notified at all so i actually realised by a coincident 2 weeks afterwards. Would have been nice to be notified but I shouldn’t complain.
Awesome just to be on the site 🙂
