World Elephant Day 2026 is on the 12th of August 2026
Today is World Elephant Day, a moment to acknowledge one of the true architects of the African landscape.
Elephants shape the world around them. They open pathways, move water, alter vegetation, and influence the lives of countless other species. Their presence is not just felt. It is visible in the land itself.
When photographing elephants, what stays with me is their sense of scale and patience. They move slowly, deliberately, as if time works differently around them. In those quieter moments, dust settling on skin or a pause between steps, their character becomes most apparent. These are often the moments that later become elephant prints in my work.
World Elephant Day is also a reminder of how fragile their future remains. Protecting elephants means protecting the landscapes they help create and the balance that depends on them.
Today, I’m thankful for every encounter and for the perspective elephants bring, both in the wild and behind the lens.
