Today is World Lion Day, a moment to reflect on one of Africa’s most iconic and complex animals.

Lions carry a presence that is hard to describe until you experience it in the wild. Strength, stillness, confidence, and vulnerability often exist in the same moment. A lion resting in the grass can feel just as powerful as one on the move.

Having spent time photographing lions across Africa, I’m always struck by how much of their story lives in the quiet moments. A glance, a posture, the way light falls across the mane. These are the moments that stay with me, and the ones that later become lion prints in my collection.

World Lion Day is also a reminder that lions face increasing pressure across their range. Protecting them means protecting the landscapes they depend on, and the balance of life within those ecosystems.

Today, I’m grateful for every encounter, and for the privilege of observing lions on their own terms.
