#101 - Leopard in Tree
Serengeti, Tanzania - 2024
There’s a special kind of magic in seeing a leopard in a tree. It doesn’t matter if it’s your first time on safari or your fiftieth. The moment you catch sight of one stretched out across a branch, everything seems to pause. It’s quiet, effortless, and wild. For many, it becomes the image that stays with them long after the journey ends.
But why is it so compelling? What is it about this scene that draws us in so deeply?
Leopards spend more time in trees than many people think. It’s more than just a resting place. Trees are essential to how they survive. In areas where lions or hyenas threaten to steal their kills, leopards drag their prey into the branches to keep it out of reach. In places like the Serengeti or South Luangwa, it’s not uncommon to see an impala or gazelle tucked securely in the fork of a tree.
Beyond that, trees offer shade, shelter from insects, and a peaceful place to rest. From high above, a leopard can watch everything below without being seen. That quiet strength, combined with their natural elegance, is what makes them so unforgettable to photograph.
