Eyes of Tomorrow is a portrait of Kinyo, a young male leopard photographed in Laikipia, Kenya, at around fourteen months old. His head is turned sharply to the side, his attention fixed on something outside the frame, while the beautiful pattern of his own body stretches across the photograph beneath him.
 
I was drawn to the contrast between the softness of the high-key surroundings and the intensity of Kinyo's gaze. By leaving a large area of empty space in front of him, the photograph gives his gaze somewhere to travel while leaving us to wonder what has caught his attention.
 
At fourteen months, Kinyo was approaching a time when he would increasingly have to find his own way in the world. For me, there is something in his expression that hints at that future. He is still a young leopard, but already carries the focus and confidence of the predator he is becoming. This sense of looking forward, both literally and figuratively, gave the photograph its title, Eyes of Tomorrow.
