#111 - Half Blood, Full Heart | Horse Print
Camargue, France - 2025
This photograph was taken in the Camargue region of southern France, where these horses roam the wetlands in small, spirited groups. The horse in the frame is not a pure Camargue stallion but a mix. Even so, he holds his ground with confidence and presence.
He rears in response to another stallion just outside the frame. The moment was part of a short but intense exchange between the two. These displays are common among males, especially in early morning when energy is high. It’s not just aggression but a way of establishing space and testing each other.
His body shows signs of these encounters. Scars and marks across his chest and shoulders hint at past challenges. The decision to present the image in black and white helps draw attention to the textures, contrasts, and movement. Without the distraction of colour, the focus stays on form and emotion.
The title 'Half Blood, Full Heart' speaks to his background and attitude. He may not be a purebred, but his spirit is no less strong. What matters here isn’t bloodline but the energy he brings into the frame. This is a portrait of character, shaped by experience and the wild landscape he calls home.
This print formed part of the fine art photography exhibition 'Horses of Salt and Wind' held in Malta in 2025.
