#118 - Hope
Ol Pejeta, Kenya - 2024
This black and white photograph shows a southern white rhino at Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya, one of the companions of Fatu and Najin, the last two northern white rhinos on Earth. She is believed to be a possible surrogate mother in the scientific effort to save the subspecies from extinction. The image was taken at ground level, capturing her calm presence and quiet strength in a way that reflects my approach to fine art wildlife photography.
This piece is part of my limited edition rhino prints and a key work within my black and white African wildlife prints collection. The detail and simplicity of the composition make it a strong addition for collectors of black and white animal prints or wildlife wall art.
I have chosen to call this piece Hope due to the fact that this southern white rhino represents the fragile possibility of saving her northern cousins from extinction. As a potential surrogate mother, she carries not only her own story but also the future of an entire subspecies. Her presence at Ol Pejeta Conservancy stands as a quiet reminder that even in the face of near loss, there is still a chance for renewal.
