Masai Mara, Kenya - 2012  The photograph that started it all. This photograph was taken on my very first safari in Kenya, back in 2012. I had a newly purchased camera body and a rented lens, and I was simply excited to be photographing African wildlife for the first time. I was originally trying to create something a little more abstract, using the patterns and stripes of a large herd of zebras. Then, amongst all those stripes, I noticed an eye looking straight at me. I quickly tried to capture that brief moment of eye contact before it disappeared back into the crowd. When I returned home, I decided to submit the photograph to the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. To my surprise, it made it all the way to the final round. That was when a thought first entered my head. Maybe this is what I should be doing. At the time, I had no idea where that thought would take me. Years later, I'm still travelling the world photographing wildlife, and what started as a simple moment amongst a herd of zebras has become my career. It's funny how one photograph can change the direction of your life. And this was mine.
