Two zebras grazing back to back

#021 - Stripes

Amboseli, Kenya - 2022

Zebras are highly social animals that exhibit strong herd behavior, spending the majority of their time in close-knit groups. Within these herds, zebras engage in various social activities, such as grazing together, which fosters a sense of community and mutual reliance. They also participate in grooming each other, a behavior that not only helps maintain their physical health by removing parasites but also strengthens social bonds and reinforces group cohesion.

While they graze and groom, zebras remain vigilant, constantly scanning their surroundings for potential predators. This collective vigilance enhances their chances of detecting danger early, providing the herd with the opportunity to flee from threats. The combination of social interaction and mutual protection underscores the importance of group living for zebras in the wild.
