#036 - Around The World
South Africa - 2017
In this award-winning fine art bird print created somewhere along National Route 14, between Pretoria and Upington in South Africa, an old water tower has found new life as a thriving colony for swallows and swifts. These agile birds have transformed the structure into a bustling hub of activity with their nests clinging to its weathered walls. The tower, now adorned with the intricate mud and grass nests, stands as a testament to nature's ability to reclaim and repurpose human-made structures.
I love the mix between nature and the man-made in this slightly confusing piece of bird wall art. I find it fascinating that it is not immediately clear what we are looking at, which invites the viewer to pause and explore the image a little longer.
The swallows and swifts dart in and out of the tower, their swift movements is a stark contrast against the backdrop of the vast South African landscape. This remarkable adaptation showcases the resilience and ingenuity of these birds, turning an old, forgotten relic into a sanctuary of life and community.
This is an award-winning piece of artwork.
